What is a flood elevation certificate?
If you live in a high-risk area for flooding and are purchasing flood insurance through the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP), you will almost certainly be required to provide an elevation certificate to complete your purchase.
“My house isn’t on a ‘Flood Zone’ map, so I don’t need flood insurance. Right?” Wrong! If you live in Florida, chances are that you need flood insurance, even if your house isn’t located in a “high risk” flood zone as indicated by flood zone maps.
You might want to avoid using your homeowners insurance if you can, however accidents happen and there is a time when you’re going to have to file a claim. It’s good that you can rely on a quality insurance company to have your back when you’re strapped for cash. However, you need to know that with most homeowner’s insurance policies, not everything is covered.
